RESIDENTIAL OWNER/MANAGER KATZ REALTY GROUP JOINS IBS USER BASE

Firm Incorporates Web-Enabled Property Management and Accounting System

TOTOWA, N.J., Oct. 1, 2012 – Katz Realty Group has joined the Integrated Business Systems (IBS) user base, announced Michael Mullin, IBS president. The Totowa, N.J. technology firm develops and supports high-quality property management and accounting software for the commercial real estate community.

Founded in 1952 and based in Queens, N.Y., Katz Realty Group owns and manages more than two dozen residential properties in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. The company is also developing new rental properties in New York City. The third-generation family business today is operated by cousins Lennard and Ronald Katz.

Katz Realty Group is using the web-enabled IBS 10.0i product, which is scalable and customizable for enterprises of any size. The software, developed over 33 years, addresses virtually all property management, accounting and construction management tasks. Users of IBS 10.0i work within an intuitive environment and have access to diverse reporting capabilities. The product also features tightly coupled interfaces with dozens of real estate-specific, third-party software applications that wrap around the core system. Hardware, applications and data are located and secured by IBS. System users have the ability to connect to IBS from anywhere they can tap into the Internet.

According to Lennard Katz, his company had been using its old system for more than three decades. “We wanted a more modern product that could take advantage of the latest technologies, and a vendor with a track record for providing new capabilities to keep up with the industry’s changing needs,” he said. “It also was important to us to keep our records and hardware off site. In addition to meeting these requirements, IBS is a predominantly regional company, so the team there truly understands New York City’s unique reporting requirements.”

Katz added that IBS being a boutique firm added to the partnership’s appeal. “The size is a perfect fit for us,” he noted. “The support team is small enough that they all know who we are, but it is big enough that there always is someone who can help. We really appreciate that.”

For Katz Realty Group, the transition to IBS came with some challenges. “We had been using the same system for so long that the learning and adjustment process, logically, was steep,” Katz noted. “That said, the IBS training team is doing a great job. And the support team works diligently to solve any problems we encounter.”

Mullin noted that Katz Realty Group’s joining the IBS user base reflects stepped-up technology investment throughout the regional commercial and residential real estate communities. “Savvy companies like Katz Realty Group always have been deeply focused on creating the most efficient, effective operations,” he said. “Yet through the downturn many made the best possible use of their existing technology. At the same time, capabilities continued to advance with new tools to make day-to-day operations more profitable. Now, commensurate with the market recovery, we are seeing an uptick in upgrades for existing clients and installations for new customers.”

A recognized leader in the New York/New Jersey real estate technology sector, IBS serves more than 100 public and private commercial and residential entities ranging from mid-size owners and professional management companies to some of the country’s largest REITS. The firm’s Network Services division provides full consulting, installation and support for computer and networking technologies to clients in a range of industries.
