Founding Shareholder Fred Koenig Addresses Delegation of Armenian Government Representatives at
PHILADELPHIA (May 8, 2013) – Volpe and Koenig, P.C., an intellectual property (IP) law firm with offices in Philadelphia, Pa., and Princeton, N.J., announced that on May 6, 2013 in New York, N.Y., founding shareholder C. Frederick Koenig addressed a delegation from the Armathour, the only collective copyright management organization of authors’ rights and related rights in Armenia, as well as representatives from the Intellectual Property Agency in Armenia and the Ministry of Culture of Armenia. Hosted by the United States Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), the event titled “U.S./Armenia Consultations on Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights,” featured consultations with the delegation, held May 2 – 7, 2013 in New York, N.Y. and Washington, D.C.

Representing the American Bar Association Intellectual Property Law (ABA/IPL) Section as a council member, and the American Bar Association Section of International Law (ABA/SIL) as a liaison, Koenig discussed a variety of IP issues to help Armauthor and other government representatives understand how to effectively and efficiently manage a collective copyright agency, raise public awareness of the importance of IP education and gain insight on how U.S. collective copyright associations work. The CLDP’s long-term goal of these consultations and future programming is to help produce predictable, harmonized and efficient copyright protection in Armenia.

Currently serving on the council of the ABA IPL Section, Koenig has held a variety of positions within the section over the past 30 years. He founded the China State Intellectual Property Office/U.S. Bar Liaison Council on which he represents the ABA IPL Section and currently serves as the chair. Koenig is also the current liaison from the IPL Section to the ABA International Law Section and has participated in the generation of joint comments of the sections on six different China law and rule proposals over the last year.

Koenig has extensive experience in securing and enforcing patents, trademarks and copyrights in a wide range of diverse industries, both domestically and internationally. He earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, his M.A. in mathematics from The Pennsylvania State University, and his B.S. in mathematics, with honors, from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Koenig is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the bar in Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts. He is admitted to the United States Supreme Court, U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth and Federal Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania.
